BizFed has already opened a dialogue with LA’s incoming mayor, and we’ll be working over the coming weeks to ensure the business community has a seat at the table on key issues affecting the City of Los Angeles and the entire region.

LAEDC Launches Cleantech Portal

With generous funding from the Pacific Gateway Workforce Investment Network (PGWIN), the LAEDC launched a Cleantech Portal - an online section of its website dedicated to everything "clean technology". The LAEDC Cleantech Cluster Project is one of the nation's first efforts to examine the current and potential future state of clean technology in a local economy--with a specific focus on Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technologies.

Tamara Gurney, president and CEO of Mission Valley Bank, has been selected as the California Independent Bankers’ 2013 incoming president. “With more than 33 years in banking, Tamara is a natural leader whose great wealth of experience in community banking will be a valuable asset in leading our association as president,” said CIB Executive Director David Haithcock. “Tamara has a deep understanding of community banking issues and is the right fit to support our causes at the forefront.”

Appeals Court Strikes Down Union Poster Rule

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit said the National Labor Relations Board violated employers' free speech rights in in trying to force them to display the posters or face charges of committing an unfair labor practice.

Unions had hoped the posters would help them boost falling membership, but business groups argued that they were too one-sided in favor of unionization. BizFed opposed this ruling and submitted public testimony.

The 28th Annual World Conference of the International Association of Ports and Harbors is coming to Los Angeles May 6-10, at the JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE.   The biennial World Ports Conference is attended by 400-500 high-level officials from IAPH’s member base of nearly 200 ports and port organizations spanning 90 countries. IAPH member ports handle more than 60 percent of the world's sea-borne trade and nearly 80 percent of the world’s containerized cargo.
