Ontario, LA agree to suspend airport lawsuit

Ontario’s lawsuit to regain control of Ontario International Airport from Los Angeles and Los Angeles World Airports was placed on temporary hold Dec. 5 to allow the cities to try to settle the matter out of court.

Ontario has been seeking local control of the Inland airport since 2010, after several years of declining passenger numbers. The downward trend has continued and by the end of this year, the airport is expected to see 3.9 million passengers, 42 percent less than in 2007 — and fewer travelers than in 1986.

The Planning Report talked to Mary D. Nichols, Chairman of the California Air Resources Board since 2007. She spoke at the CleanTech LA Global Showcase on November 5.

BizFed member Boeing will cut 200 to 300 Southern California jobs in a nationwide realignment of its research and development workforce to make the operation more nimble. The cuts will come from Boeing's Research & Technology Division, where roughly 700 workers are currently spread across plants in El Segundo, Long Beach, Seal Beach and Huntington Beach.

Most of those employees work in Huntington Beach, with some in Seal Beach and smaller numbers in Long Beach and El Segundo, Boeing spokesman Daryl Stephenson said.

Unprecedented levels of collaboration at the federal, state and local levels regarding job creation. Workforce development, project streamlining, tax credit incentives and eliminating non-performing programs.

These were among the recommendations from speakers at the 4th Annual Economic Recovery & Job Creation Summit co-hosted by the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) and the Southern California Leadership Council (SCLC) in downtown Los Angeles December 5.
