SGVEP's Kurtz Named to MWD Board

San Gabriel Valley businesswoman Cynthia Kurtz was seated today as a member of the board of directors of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. Kurtz, a former co-Chair of BizFed's Advocacy Committee, represents the city of Pasadena on Metropolitan's 37-member board. She succeeds Timothy F. Brick, who had served on the Metropolitan board since June 1985. Kurtz was appointed to the board's Finance and Insurance Committee and Communication and Legislation Committee.

New CA Military Council to Focus on Defense Industry

In an effort to protect and expand the military’s vital role in national security and California’s economy, Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. has established an 18-member Governor’s Military Council. The panel will be led by former Congresswoman and Under Secretary of State Ellen Tauscher and includes BizFed member Joe Czyzyk of Mercury Air Group.

Today we are pleased to report that the LA County Board of Supervisors voted NOT TO PROCEED with the proposed “Clean Water, Clean Beaches” parcel tax measure. This is a big victory for the business community, and indeed for all of the diverse stakeholders who ultimately concluded that too many problems remained with the proposal.
