BizFed Officer Among Newly Installed SBACC Officers

The South Bay Association of Chambers of Commerce held its annual installation and awards luncheon on Feb. 1, honoring Congressman Henry Waxman, LA County Supervisor Don Knabe and Senator Rod Wright.

SBACC also installed its new Board officers and Joe Ahn, Northrop Grumman, as its new chair. Joe is currently BizFed's co-Vice Chair of Polling & Research and previously was co-Vice Chair of BizFed's Advocacy Committee.

Moving LA: Transportation Forum Tackles Key Issues

Business, transportation, labor, environmental, government and community leaders gathered Feb. 1 for Move LA’s annual transportation conversation to chart the way forward in 2013. Without Measure J and redevelopment, local governments need new tools to accelerate transit and the production and preservation of housing that is affordable, as well as the infrastructure that will make neighborhoods walkable and bikeable, prosperous and healthy.

Speakers included BizFed CEO Tracy Rafter, LA Area Chamber President Gary Toebben and LA Business Council's Mary Leslie.

CEQA Modernization Priority for Governor

This morning in the Governor’s State of the State address, he specifically called out CEQA modernization as a key priority. The Statewide CEQA Working Group Coalition – of which BizFed is a member - issued a coalition press statement to thank him for those comments and reinforce our commitment to working together to make that happen.

Port of LA Breaks Ground on $137.7M Railyard

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Port of Los Angeles officials broke ground this week on a new intermodal storage railyard that will improve a vital link in the national freight network. The new yard will function as a critical link between the Port of Los Angeles and the Alameda Corridor, providing staging and storage for trains using the corridor.
