Latest in Lawsuit Over SANDAG RTP

A judge this week declined to hear the amicus briefs filed in connection with the lawsuit challenging San Diego Association of Government’s 2050 Regional Transportation Plan. BizFed was among dozens of signers to one of the briefs.

While government reform efforts earned strong support, a new survey of organizations representing more than 185,000 businesses in Los Angeles County suggests that proponents of tax increase measures on the November ballot have their work cut out for them. BizFed, Los Angeles County Business Federation, today announced the results of its 2012 election survey, which polled members on eight ballot questions affecting businesses.  The record response rate shows the Los Angeles business community is engaged but still needs to be persuaded prior to Nov. 6.

Northrop Grumman Aids Mars Rover Navigation

BizFed member Northrop Grumman Corp. is in the news these days as the supplier of the navigation and pointing aid for NASA's Curiosity Mars rover, which recently began a historic two-year exploration of Mars. Northrop Grumman provided the LN-200S - a lightweight, fiber-optic inertial measurement unit (IMU) that will help guide the Mars rover as it investigates the viability of microbial life on the planet, now or in the past.

The Southern California business community is continuing to engage with the South Coast Air Quality Management District as the district works on updates to the 2012 Air Quality Management Plan for our region. Business leaders are urged to engage in public hearings on the AQMP scheduled for later this month. VOTE: Deadline to Register is Oct. 22

The November 6 General Election is just around the corner, and California Secretary of State Debra Bowen is inviting businesses and organizations to join her in improving voter registration and turnout through the nonpartisan MyVote Democracy At Work Project.

Governor Brown today appointed 30 California leaders – including several from LA County – to the state’s  Workforce Investment Board, the private-sector led body tasked with advising the Governor on jobs and workforce development. The Board will work closely with Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) to identify the needs of industry and to create career pathways that provide businesses the skilled workforce they need and while putting unemployed and underemployed Californians back to work.
