BizFed has joined with more than 100 other organizations to urge workers and management of West Coast ports to reach a new labor agreement. As West Coast ports, led by facilities in Los Angeles and Long Beach, California, are the crucial entry points for merchandise from Asia, a new labor agreement is critical.

The ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach account for about 40% of the cargo shipped to the U.S., with a combined 14.6 million containers arriving last year, said Rachel Campbell, a spokeswoman for the port of Los Angeles.

Did you know that L.A. County posted the lowest turnout in the state for the June 3 primary, with only 16.97% of all registered voters turning out to vote?  Statewide turnout hit a record low during that election with only 25.17% of the 17.6 million people who are registered throughout the state! Let's do something to change that!

BizFed urges all its members to VOTE Nov. 4.

The Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development today announced the upcoming opening of applications for companies seeking to take part in the California Competes Tax Credit Program for FY 2014-15.

The program is an income tax credit available to businesses that want to locate and grow in California. Tax credit agreements will be negotiated by the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development and approved by the California Competes Tax Credit Committee.

Each fiscal year, 25% of the credits are reserved for small businesses.

LA City Council's Dangerous Anti-Prop 13 Position

BizFed has long been opposed to a "split-roll" - differing taxation rates for commercial and residential properties. But the LA City Council voted recently to support legislative efforts to support such legislation.

Read this Op-Ed by the Los Angeles News Group - which ALSO OPPOSES a split-roll effort:  Los Angeles leaders sometimes talk about ways to make the city more business-friendly. Tuesday apparently will not be one of those times.

More than 150 business, community, and opinon leaders participated in the BizFed Institute's NextUp Forum: Clean Water for Life and Business at Woodbury University in Burbank on June 4, 2014.

BizFed member Bank of America announced a $5 million commitment in support of the 2015 Special Olympics World Games that will take place here in Los Angeles next summer. For additional details, click here.
