The Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, together with more than 200 business leaders including BizFed members, convened at L.A. City Hall this week to call on the Mayor and LA City electeds to make job creation their number one priority and help put L.A. back to work.

An LA City Council committee this week tabled a decision on whether to put a measure on the March 2011 ballot to levy a 12 percent tax on billboards, supergraphics and other forms of outdoor advertising, referring the proposal back to the City Legislative Analyst for further review.

 

Measure R Transit Projects Getting Momentum

Another big step occurred today toward solving regional gridlock - using the Measure R (1/2 cent sales tax) and 30/10 plan funding – as the Metropolitan Transportation Authority voted 10-0-1 to approve a preliminary route plan for a $4.2-billion project to build a subway between downtown Los Angeles and Westwood.

CA Workers' Comp Rates on the Rise

California employers paid on average $2.44 per $100 of payroll for workers’ compensation coverage in the first half of this year, according to new data. That’s 3 percent above the average amount employers paid a year earlier, but still 62 percent less than the average rate they paid in the second half of 2003 before the state’s system for injured workers was overhauled.
