Delayed: Business Requirement for NLRA Poster

Some good news for business: The DC Circuit Court of Appeals has temporarily enjoined the NLRB’s rule requiring the posting of employee rights under the National Labor Relations Act. That means the rule, which had been scheduled to take effect on April 30, 2012, will not take effect until the legal issues are resolved. There is no new deadline for the posting requirement at this time.

The NLRB had ruled that as of April 30, employers would be required to post a flier outlining union rights options for employees.

OCBC's Dunn Appointed to CA Transportation Commission

Governor Jerry Brown has appointed Orange County Business Council (OCBC) President and CEO Lucy Dunn to serve a four year term on the California Transportation Commission (CTC), subject to confirmation by the State Senate.

Feinstein Takes Aim at "Predatory" ADA Lawsuits Against Business

U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein says if California lawmakers don't act to clamp down on "predatory" disability access lawsuits she may author federal legislation to do just that.

In a March 8 letter to fellow Democrat and Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, Feinstein accused plaintiffs lawyers of coercing business owners into paying five-figure settlements by threatening potentially costlier lawsuits targeting minor violations under the state's access and civil rights laws.

CA Workers' Comp: Overhaul Stirring

The two biggest players in California's workers' compensation system — labor unions and large employers — are quietly crafting the biggest overhaul of the mandatory insurance program in a decade.  The goal: provide more care to injured workers without raising premiums for businesses.

•    The negotiations are focused on squeezing waste from California's $15-billion system, which, while huge, often delays or denies compensation and medical care that could get injured workers back on the job.

LA County Enterprise Zones - Growing!

The state gave final approval last month for a new enterprise zone for business tax credits in Los Angeles County:  The Harbor Gateway Communities Enterprise Zone, which took effect May 1, includes the city of Huntington Park, the portion of the city of Los Angeles extending down to the harbor area and parts of unincorporated Los Angeles County.
