New Bipartisan Commission on Political Reform

BizFed Connects with LA County Freshman Legislators

With this year's unprecedented turnover in LA County's state legislative delegation (13 Assembly and 2 Senate), BizFed held its first-ever special breakfast reception Feb. 22 for freshman state legislators to connect them with active business leaders from their districts and throughout the region.

LA County Economic Outlook: Modest

Los Angeles County's economy will continue to improve this year and next, with unemployment expected to drop below 10 percent by 2014, coupled with modest gains in job creation, the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation said in a new forecast report. But forecasters warned that Los Angeles County's nonfarm employment numbers likely won't match their 2007 peak until 2015 or 2016.

LA City Forming Economic Development Department

The LA City Council voted on Feb. 5 to advance a proposal to create a new Economic Development Department to improve private sector job creation and economic development services and activities in the City. Numerous business organizations - including BizFed - are engaged in working to develop a solid foundation for the department.

Go-Biz Hosting Manufacturing Summit March 27

The Governor’s Office for Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) will hold an advanced Manufacturing Summit at the Capitol on March 27th, 2013. The summit will be led by Governor Brown’s Senior Jobs Advisor Mike Rossi and will convene key stakeholders from education, industry, research and the state’s iHub innovation network.
